Training

Vocational training

Since its beginnings, BIB has been committed to the development of education and training programmes that meet the demand from various sectors for talent in bioinformatics. In order to address the growing need for technicians, BIB appointed an experts commission from the health and business sectors to develop the contents of a two-year adaptation of a vocational education and training programme (VET) designed to train computer technicians for working within the life sciences. This added value is achieved by a bioinformatic module that provides students with a basic knowledge of biological vocabulary and the most-used tools in the bioinformatic sector. This adaptation has been carried out jointly with the Education Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Government of Catalonia), and is officially termed CFGS Desenvolupament d'Aplicacions Web (DAW), adaptació al perfil professional bioinformàtica.

Students are required to do an internship and may be eligible for the dual-training programme. BIB partners currently committed to this project by hosting students are Mind the Byte, Sequentia Biotech, Vall d'Hebron Research Institute, Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics GRIB (IMIM-UPF), Bellvitge Biomedical Research Center (IDIBELL) and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

Information on the education centres currently offering these studies is provided below.

CFGS Desenvolupament d'aplicacions web (perfil professional Bioinformàtica)

This new advanced VET degree aims to train software developers in omic sciences, medical research and the design of new drugs for the pharmaceutical industry.

With 2000 hours distributed in two courses, it includes access to omic and biomedical databases, sequence alignment, identification of gene functionality, statistic analysis, as well as development of web applications. The practicum period can be remunerated (dual modality).

Institut Provençana, the main public VET institution in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat since 1977, offers all the computer science VET degrees with both classroom and blended learning, access to online campus, English CLIL methodologies and the chance to obtain two degrees in three years.
