The Human Microbiome Lab (MetaLab)

The group focuses its research in the study of the human microbiome in health and disease conditions combining culture techniques, experimental molecular biology and bioinformatics. The development of culture techniques involved protocols to cultivate gut microbes in anaerobic conditions. The set up of molecular techniques comprise protocols to extract and to quantify the microbiome from different sample types. The development of bioinformatics tools includes implementing in-house pipelines to analyze the composition and functions of the microbiome. The group has interests in various human disorders such as inflammatory bowel diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease and diabetes.
