Protein Engineering Laboratory (LEP)

The efforts of the group are leading to get insights into the relationship between protein structure and function (or dysfunction), as well as to the creation of novel biomolecules with desirable properties to study:

  • protein stability, folding and oligomerization with the final aim of understanding the molecular basis of several proteinopathies.
  • the molecular basis of the cytotoxic mechanism of ribonucleases with the aim of design, produce and characterize new cytotoxic ribonucleases with antitumor properties.
  • the mechanism of protein trans-splicing and its biotechnological applications to obtain tagged proteins and more stable circular permutated proteins.
