Job description

Context And Mission

 

The Text Mining Unit of the BSC-CNS (TeMU-BSC) is funded through the Plan de Impulso de las Tecnologías del Lenguaje de la Agenda Digital, by the Secretary of State of Telecommunications and the Information. It is the first publicly funded text mining unit in Spain and has the aim to promote the development of natural language processing and machine translation resources for Spanish and other co-official languages in the area of biomedicine.
We search for a technician who will be responsible of the integration of data, applications and search tools, and the maintenance of the servers and other infrastructure of the unit.

 

Key Duties

 

  • Administration task on servers, operating systems and applications.
  • Installation of new releases of software/server patches.
  • Integration of NLP components using IUMA, GATE, OpenNLP, etc.
  • Development of mechanisms for the integration of resources and a data warehouse.

Desired skills and expertise

Requirements

 

  •  Education
    • University degree in computer science, telecommunications, bioinformatics, electrical engineering or equivalent.
  •  Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Demonstrated experience installing and configuring servers, hardware, operating systems, databases and applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and integration of software tools.
  • Experience with NLP frameworks such as UIMA, GATE, NLTK, OpenNLP, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with UNIX environments.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Java, Python, C++, Scala, R.
  • Experience with software like Maven and Nexus or setuptools, Virtualenv, PIP.
  • Experience tuning databases for better performance.
  • Demonstrable use of source code repositories (e.g. Github, BitBucket, Sourceforge).
  • Experience with Web Services (e.g. RESTful).
  • Experience in/with cloud computing, Docker, Docker swarms and VMs.
  • Skills in Networking and Security principles.
  • Skills and knowledge related to data Warehouses, NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Lucene), SQL (e.g. PostGreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MS-SQL).
  • Experience with Java, Apache, HAProxy, Tomcat Application Server, etc.
  • Experience in/with cloud computing, Docker, Docker swarms and VMs.
  • Fluent in either English or Spanish.

Contract duration and other benefits

 

 

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
