Job description

The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG shares principles of an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team that is supported by high-end and innovative technologies and a flexible and efficient administration.

CRG has been conferred with a badge of 'HR Excellence in Research' by the European Commission, in recognition to its progress in implementing the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers, that among others consists of transparent, merit-based recruitment procedures and attractive work-life balance working conditions.

The role

We are accepting applications for either a post-doctoral fellow or a laboratory manager.

The successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to several open-ended projects in the laboratory related to C. elegans genetics, physiology, and aging.
  • Design and execute experiments characterizing aging in C. elegans using transcriptomic methods.
  • Work with the lab's high-throughput imaging technology "The Lifespan Machine".
  • Collaborate with the CNAG (centro nacional de análisis genómico) Single Cell Genomics Team and CRG Genomics Core
  • Collaborate with computational scientists to develop new analytic techniques needed for the experimental work
  • Help mentor graduate students and postdocs

About the team

During aging, molecular mechanisms determine the timing of disease and death. Yet, these molecular mechanisms are embedded in complex physiologic networks, and this interdependence leads mechanisms to exhibit collective behavior.   To understand the physiologic action and therapeutic potential of dietary, genetic, and pharmacological interventions in aging, we need to develop better and more quantitative models of aging mechanisms and their systems-level dynamics.

Our group pursues these goals through a mix of C. elegans molecular genetics, genomics, imaging, statistics, modelling, and math.  We are currently looking to expand an ongoing transcriptomics project, focusing on individual and single-cell physiologic variation during aging.
